WELCOME TO CAMP 17
The Ceremony of the Calling of an Engineer has been a uniquely Canadian tradition for 100 years and is the responsibility of the Corporation of the Seven Wardens.
The Corporation is responsible for administering and maintaining the Obligation, which is carried out by Camps established by the Corporation in various locations in Canada. Camp 17 administers the Calling of an Engineer in the Guelph, Ontario area.
The Obligation Ceremony includes the presentation of Iron Rings to Engineering graduates and Senior Candidates. Iron Rings are worn by many Engineers in Canada, reminding those who wear it - and others - of their ethical obligation to live by a high standard of professional conduct in the service of the public.
Participation in the Obligation is voluntary, and is not a requirement for graduation or licensing. Wearing an Iron Ring is not a symbol of engineering qualification. The qualification and licensing of professional engineers in Canada is the prerogative of each of the provincial/territorial professional engineering associations.
Information about the history of The Calling of an Engineer and contact information for other Camps is available at the Corporation of the Seven Wardens website: www.ironring.ca
